sports — cluster

keep score without the app store.

scorecards, brackets, draft boards and scoreboards — made for your game, opened by everyone playing.

what could i make for game day?

01 / what this is

scoring a game is a solved problem right up until you want to do it. the app for your sport has ads between holes, wants an account before you can enter a score, and does not handle the format you actually play. so someone keeps score in a notes app, someone else keeps a different score, and the bracket ends up drawn on the back of an envelope.

these recipes make the small thing instead. you describe the game — how many players, what the scoring rules are, whether you are handicapping, what the bracket looks like — and your assistant writes a page that does that, opens instantly on a phone, and can be passed to whoever is keeping score this round. no login, no install, nothing between tapping the link and entering a score.

the constraint worth knowing on game day: the page holds its state in the browser it is open in, so one phone should be the scorer. everyone else can open the same url to see the format and the rules, but they are looking at their own blank copy, not at a live shared scoreboard. and an anonymous page lasts 24 hours — perfect for one tournament, not enough for a league you run every week.

questions.

03 / questions
can everyone see the score update live?

no. there is no shared state — each browser keeps its own. one device keeps score, and the rest can open the page to read the rules or the format. a live shared scoreboard would need hosted storage, which we do not offer, so no recipe here claims it.

does it work on the course or the court with no signal?

yes, once it is open. the page is one file with nothing to fetch, so it keeps working through a dead spot. load it in the car park, or add it to your home screen, and you are fine for the round.

can it handle our weird house rules?

that is the reason to build one. tell your assistant the actual rules — the scramble format, the handicap you use, the tiebreak nobody else implements, the way your league does points — and the page does that rather than the nearest standard variant. a rule you forgot is one sentence and a republish away.

can i reuse it next week?

yes, if you claim the page so it outlives its first day. the same url works every week, and most of these recipes ask for a reset button so you can clear last week’s scores without losing the setup. an anonymous page is gone by the next round.
